About insurance discounts
Some insurers offer discounts for certain protective devices, for example, alarm systems, water-leak detection or automatic shutoff, and vehicle anti-theft devices. Whether you’d get one, and how much, depends on your insurer, your state, and the exact device.
Discounts vary and aren’t guaranteed, so ask your insurer before you buy anything to get a discount:
- “Do you offer a discount for this kind of device? Does the specific type I’m looking at qualify?”
- “Does it need professional monitoring or professional installation?”
- “What proof do you need, and when would the discount start?”
Some insurers count only professionally monitored alarms, and many ask for proof of installation. We don’t list discount amounts, and we don’t recommend insurers. Buy gear because it helps protect your home or car; treat any discount as a bonus you’ve confirmed with your insurer, in writing if you can.
Education, not advice. We list product categories for general information; we don’t test, rank, or endorse specific products, and no device guarantees a claim outcome. When it matters, talk to your carrier or a licensed professional.
