Privacy policy

Plain English: we collect as little as we can, we don’t sell or share your information, and we don’t run ads or tracking scripts. Here’s exactly what happens when you use the site.

Effective October 14, 2026

The short version

  • Reading the site: no account, no ads, no analytics or tracking scripts.
  • Email signup: we keep your address and send emails through Mailchimp. Unsubscribe any time.
  • Buying the $47 kit: payment happens on Stripe. We never see your full card number.
  • Contact form: we keep your message so we can reply.
  • Amazon links: if you click one, Amazon knows you came from us. That’s how affiliate links work.
  • We never sell or share your personal information, and you can ask us to see or delete it.

Email signup (Mailchimp)

When you join the email list, we collect your email address and the page you signed up on. We keep a copy on our own server and add you to our list at Mailchimp (Intuit), the service that sends our emails.

We use your address only to send new guides and site news. Mailchimp may record whether an email was opened or a link was clicked; we use that only to see what’s useful.

Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us to remove you, and we’ll delete our copy too. Mailchimp’s own practices are in the Intuit privacy statement.

Buying the $47 Claim-ready kit

The “Buy” button takes you to a checkout page run by Stripe, our payment processor. You enter your card details on Stripe, not on this site, and we never see or store your full card number.

Stripe sends us what we need to deliver the kit and keep records: your name, email, the amount, and the date. We keep that for tax and accounting and to help if you have a problem with your order.

Stripe uses cookies and fraud checks on its own pages. See Stripe’s privacy policy.

Cookies and your device

Our pages don’t set advertising or tracking cookies. WordPress, the software the site runs on, may set a short-lived technical cookie (for example, if you leave a form half-filled or someone logs in to manage the site).

The printable checklists on some guides remember your ticks in your browser’s local storage. That stays on your device; we never receive it. The “Clear” button or your browser settings remove it.

Other companies set their own cookies only when you go to their site: Stripe at checkout and Amazon after you click an Amazon link.

Amazon links

Some guides have boxes labeled “Helpful tools · Paid links.” As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. When you click one of those links, Amazon uses a tracking code in the link and its own cookies to credit the sale to us.

Amazon doesn’t tell us who you are or what you bought, only totals. Amazon’s handling of your data is covered by Amazon’s privacy notice. More on how we make money: Disclosure.

Fonts, hosting, and server logs

  • Google Fonts. The site’s typefaces load from Google Fonts, so your browser connects to Google, which receives your IP address and browser type. Google says it doesn’t use this to build ad profiles; see the Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
  • Analytics. We don’t use Google Analytics or any other analytics or ad-tracking tool. If that ever changes, we’ll update this page first.
  • Hosting. Like every website, our host’s servers keep standard logs (IP address, pages requested, time, browser type) for security and troubleshooting.
  • Contact form. Your name, email, topic, and message are stored on our server and emailed to us so we can reply. We don’t add you to the email list unless you sign up yourself.

Your rights (including California)

Wherever you live, you can ask us to:

  • Tell you what personal information we have about you and where it came from;
  • Correct it, or delete it (we may keep purchase records the law requires us to keep);
  • Stop emails at any time.

We don’t sell or share personal information (as California law defines those words), and we don’t use it for targeted advertising, so there’s nothing to opt out of. We won’t treat you differently for using any of these rights.

Do Not Track: we don’t track visitors across other websites, so our site works the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

To make a request, use the contact form and choose “Other.” We’ll reply by email, may ask you to confirm the request from the same address, and aim to answer within 30 days.

The site is for adults and isn’t directed to children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect their information.

Changes and contact

We keep information only as long as we need it: email addresses until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, messages until the conversation is done, and purchase records as long as tax rules require.

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we’ll say so on this page and, for email subscribers, in our next email.
